National Adoption week posterIn 2010 the British Association for Adoption & Fostering were looking to give National Adoption Week a shake up. The campaign aims to encourage more people to think about adoption. Despite spending thousands on posters and other materials, research showed that the vast majority of people decided to adopt based on word of mouth.

In an attempt harness the power of word of mouth, I helped develop a new scheme called Adoption Champions. The project aimed to recruit adoption experienced people and get them spreading the word in their local communities. A social networking website was developed for the Champions, which included tools they could download and use in offline events. A flagship event during National Adoption Week, where Adoption Champions were invited to the Department for Education, lead to Children’s Minister, Tim Loughton, giving his full endorsement of the project. The scheme is still running with new recruits signing up every day.
